Forgot to mention that you don’t need to move any steam files, just the game files. So to move L4D you just have to create the folder [disc drive of choice]:\Program files\Steam\steamapps\common and plonk the folder ‘left 4 dead’ into it.

You can also keep steam on the original disc and move games to another. so long as they are placed in a sister directory, i.e. moving L4D from E:\Program files\Steam\steamapps\common to C:\Program files\Steam\steamapps\common (which is what I’ve just done.) Steam is currently updating L4D so i can’t test if it runs from steam but i double clicked the .exe and that worked. If it doesn’t work for you you can always just do what White Shadow says.

This method worked great wen i put steam on my external HD. but wen i try buying a game thru steam i get an error saying steam://purchase/(id number) Application not found. is there a way 2 fix this?
