I’d like to be given the choice of whether or not I use the one-click feature.

The same goes for themes. Installing from an URL isn't in the core yet, but I suspect it will be added eventually. But I love this plugin, and I don't see how all of it's functionailty is in the WP core (such as the install from URL and Install from file page, for themes as well as plugins). This plugin has become pretty obsolete now that WP has a built-in updater, so I'm not actively updating it.
