Free DAA to ISO Converter GUI
This tool has been superseded by the original daa2iso converter (© Luigi Auriemna), which now has it’s own GUI. Use that.
A while ago I wrote a tutorial about the DAA file extension, which has gotten a lot of visits ever since. One of the comments on that post pointed me to a free DAA-to-ISO converter by Luigi Auriemna. It’s a nice tool, but it requires that you know how to use command-line utilities (and many users don’t). That’s why I decided to make a simple graphical user interface (GUI) for the converter.
Features
Converter Features (by Luigi Auriemna)
- Converts DAA archives to ISO files. You can then burn the ISO file to a CD or DVD with one of the many freeware tools (e.g. ImgBurn) or whatever. Nearly 100% of CD/DVD software support the ISO format.
- Supports multipart DAA files.
Interface Features (by me, Janis Elsts)
- Takes care of all the command-line stuff.
- Simple Windows interface - two textboxes and a button.
- Drag-and-drop a DAA file onto the application window to select it as the input file.
- Doesn’t require installation - just extract the .zip file somewhere and run daa_converter.exe.
Download DAA to ISO converter
Download : daa2iso_gui.zip (230 Kb) and daa2iso.zip from this page.
Extract both ZIP archives to the same folder and run daa_converter.exe. If that doesn’t work, try daa2iso.exe - it has a different interface, but can be more stable.
FAQ
Wait, do I need to download the converter/interface separately?
Yes. Originally I had them both in the same ZIP file, but Luigi - the author of the converter - asked me to remove the converter executable from this distribution.
When I tried to convert a file something just flashed on my screen and nothing else happened! Huh?
That’s probably because the converter encountered an error. You can try to run it from the command prompt to see the particular error message - feel free to study the beginners guide to WinXP command prompt if you don’t know how.
I tried the command prompt and it still doesn’t work. What now?
In this case you can try to contact Luigi, the author of the converter. Don’t ask me - I only made the window with the textboxes and a button
I have a question about the GUI part, who do I ask?
Feel free to leave a comment below.

Thank you for posting this and taking your time to write the GUI, it certainly is useful.

I have created a .daa file and I have aadded a pssword , then I forgot it !!!!
now I can not open it , I have tried the converter and it is flashing in and out . I am using windows Vista any one have any suggestion ?
thank you
January 13th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
Sorry, the converter doesn’t support password-protected files. And since the DAA file format is relatively uncommon, I doubt there are any password recovery tools available.
January 14th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Thank you so much.
January 15th, 2008 at 11:53 am
I would like to add my thanks as well. This is such a great utility! Wish I had the talent to do such work alas, I am a recovering geek now paramedic and just don’t have the skills anymore. Be safe…
January 15th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
It really looks like a great tool, but I can’t download it anymore. Could you please upload the daa2Iso utility?
January 15th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
The download works fine on my end.

The only difference is that now supports big files… Mingw is a great compiler but don’t talk to it about compatibility of fseek/ftell at 64 bits
January 24th, 2008 at 12:18 am
Thanks for the info, I’ll update the archive on my site.

I have an antivirus & firewall running at all times and I strongly doubt the possibility that any of my programs might contain trojans.

February 6th, 2008 at 2:28 am
You “required” second download “daa2iso.zip” just links to “it.altervista.ms”. No download in “site” pun intended. Not a legitimate program or download, it appears.
February 6th, 2008 at 5:12 am
Looks like a direct link for that file doesn’t work. Fixed now.

didn’t work
February 15th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Just found your app to convert the stupid DAA type - Good App - Bad type…
Anyway - I’m using it for the first time to try to create an ISO for Elements 6.0. I’ve used the GUI and selected the file to convert (just 1), and I’ve elected the name to use on the converted ISO - I see the file I asked it to create, but it’s at 0 bytes still. I guess I’m wondering how long a conversion will take? - 80MB apx. I don’t see anything in the command prompt for GUI that lets me know of it’s progress. I just see in the command prompt: “Press ENTER to quit”.
Is it running??
Thanks so much for all your efforts and support!!
February 16th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Try the daa2iso.exe itself, maybe that’ll work.
Unfortunately I can’t offer any better help at the moment, I’m a bit sick (phsically), so not thinking very clearly.

How can I make a gui for a command-prompt program? please contact me.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
There’s nothing special to it and no specific tutorials to study. Basically you just make an application that will launch the command-prompt tool with certain parameters.
March 3rd, 2008 at 9:17 pm
Thanx for the great program, saves time because there is no need to download powerISO , and just use Deamon toolz

April 4th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
lately some people are contacting me asking why they must reselect the files multiple times…
I’m curious to know why you continue to say that my tools are command-line only and people need your launcher to use them with the GUI.
this is totally false and in fact your launcher does just nothing since the dialogs for selecting the real files are those of daa2iso/uif2iso.
April 4th, 2008 at 7:03 pm
The truth is I’ve been too busy/lazy to reqrite this post to reflect that. I’ll just put a big link to your page at the top and be done with it.

April 8th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
The link is in big, italic letters right at the top of this page.
If daa2iso.exe doesn’t work for you, the file probably isn’t supported by the converter, and you’re out of luck.

Hi ,
I tried using your software to convert my files to iso, but i faced an error in command prompt that not enough space.
I have attached the image also of that error.
Please guide me or tell me any other option how i can convert these files .
and is there any player in which i can play daa files directly without converting them to iso ?

Please if possible can someone drop me an email regarding this topic ?
hitesh.bhrdwj@gmail.com
July 15th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
@Hitesh - well, might it be that you actually don’t have enough space on your hard disk? You will need enough space to store both the original and the converted file (though you can delete the original later).
I’m quite certain there are no players that could play DAA files. This is because DAA itself is not a video format - it’s a format used to store other files or collections of files (=complete copies of CD/DVDs), similar to ZIP archives.
July 18th, 2008 at 1:47 am
@White Shadow -
Hi,
thanks for reply
Well that was an obvious thing to think about weather i have a disk space, but there is absolutely no problem with the space.
but still i dont know whats the error.
if u give me ur email id, then i might send u the print screen of error.
regards
Hitesh
July 18th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
@Hitesh - Maybe it’s a filesystem issue. If the converted file is very large (I don’t remember exactly, but around 4 GB I think) it can’t be stored on a FAT32 filesystem. This shouldn’t be a problem with NTFS.
In any case, my email is whiteshadow at w-shadow dot com.

ok. i have a .daa file of two movies in one. i got it from mininova.org what do i do and how do i do it free??? i have no money to pay for a converter for just one freaking movie! I am really annoyed by this. why would someone put up a file that is hard to open? makes no sense to me! uggggggggghhhhh. anyhow, i just want to go ahead a burn it to DVD and get it over with. someone please help. thanks. P.S. i am not very good with computers. not anything too advanced at least. so please no jargon. it will only confuse. lol
October 29th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
@MiriHumi - Short version :
1. Download this
2. Extract to any location
3. Run the .exe and use it to convert the .daa to .iso. Should be pretty easy to figure it out.
4. Find a freeware ISO burner. ImgBurn will do.
5. Burn the ISO file to a disk.
That’s it.
