UIF to ISO Converter GUI

This tool has been superseded by the original uif2iso converter (© Luigi Auriemna), which now has it’s own GUI. Use that.

Recently I made a converter GUI for daa2iso. Now I’ve decided to follow up with another similar tool – the UIF to ISO converter GUI :) It’s almost the same as the previous one, except that it operates on files with the UIF extension.

The original converter application was created by Luigi Auriemna. It’s a command-line tool, which means the average computer user wouldn’t know how to use it. That’s why I made this version that has a more familiar and simpler Windows-based interface (a.k.a GUI).

Features

Converter by Luigi Auriemna, interface by me – Janis Elsts.

  • Converts UIF archives to ISO files. You can then burn the ISO file to a CD or DVD with one of the many freeware tools like ImgBurn. Pretty much all of CD/DVD tools support the ISO format.
  • Simple Windows interface – two input boxes and a button.
  • Easy to use – just drag-and-drop an UIF file into the tool’s window and click “Start conversion!”.
  • Doesn’t require installation – extract the .zip file somewhere and run uif_converter.exe.

Download UIF to ISO converter

Download : uif2iso_gui.zip (230 Kb) and uif2iso.zip from this page.
Extract all the files from both archives to the same folder and run uif_converter.exe to begin. If that doesn’t work, try uif2iso.exe – it’s interface isn’t as good (IMHO), but it should work as well.

FAQ

Do I need to download the converter/interface separately?
Yes. Luigi – the author of the converter – asked me to do it this way.

When I tried to convert a file something just flashed on my screen and nothing else happened! Hmm?
That’s probably because the converter encountered an error. You can try to run it from the command prompt to see the particular error message – feel free to study the beginners guide to WinXP command prompt if you don’t know how.

I tried the command prompt and it still doesn’t work. What now?
Keep in mind that I only created the interface, not the actual conversion algorithms. So I probably can’t help you in this case. You might have better luck if you try to contact Luigi, the author of the converter.

I have a question about the GUI part, who do I ask?

    Gastric says:

Great offering. However it fails to work for me for some reason. But not your problem it’s the actual converter. It continues to kick out “invalid argument” errors though I’m unsure why. Was hoping to not have to install MagicISO just to convert the only UIF file I’ve ever encountered. ;)

  10. 10
    White Shadow says:

Have you tried to run it manually? I’ve tried to make the GUI reasonably robust in choosing the arguments for the converter, but it might not be 100%.

  11. 11
    Gastric says:

Sorry, I wasn’t explicit enough. I had to run the converter manually in command prompt to even see “invalid argument” the error. I’ve contacted Luigi directly and will consider trying a demo of MagicISO to see if their tool can convert and thus rule out the actual source. The UIF is 3.4GB in size so maybe I’m pushing the boundaries of these tools, or maybe the UIF is simply corrupted/invalid though I’d expect some more explicit error if that was the case. “invalid argument” sounds like the converter is receiving invalid instructions. However, it doesn’t get much more simple than “excecutable file1 file2″ :) Good work on the GUI.

Am I the only one with whom the program doesn’t seem to work? ;-)
I just extracted all files that are included in “uif2iso_gui.zip” and “uif2iso.zip” into one folder, started the UIF converter, told it which uif.-file to process – only to get the message “uif2iso.exe was not found”. I don’t know any further… You do? :-)

  31. 32
    White Shadow says:

The uif2iso.exe and uif_converter.exe should both be in the same folder when extracted. If they’re not, it will complain that “uif2iso.exe not found”.
Anyway, the newest version of UIF2ISO comes with it’s own “GUI”, so my app is a bit obsolete… oh well :P

    Elcid says:

Please could someone help me out:

I get this ERROR msg saying ‘wrong bbis signature’.

The file i’m trying to convert is a UIF file. The story behind it is that i originally compressed a few folders with WinRar and then further compressed those with Magic ISO. Probably a silly thing to do but now it won’t open on Magic ISO because i get ‘can’t find the file or file isn’t CD image file’.

So i’m trying to convert it from UIF to ISO but i get this error msg ‘wrong bbis signature’.

    Someone please help?

  79. 81
    White Shadow says:

I suspect that if MagicISO can’t recognize the file then you probably won’t be able to get the converter to work either; the file is probably corrupted in some way.

  80. 82
    Elcid says:

    @White Shadow

Ok Shadow… though if it is corrupted, would that mean all the content that was compressed is now kaput and that there is no way i can recover it???

    Here’s hoping there’s a solution!! Fingers crossed!

    Elcid

  107. 111

@rhi – It’s probably not a .zip file. More likely is that your archiver software (e.g. WinRAR) has associated itself with the .iso extension and treats it as an archive. You should still be able to use the file as an .iso, e.g. mount or burn it with the appropriate program.

    Dear Luigi,

You are a genious and I agree with you, the Fuck with Magic ISO, they should stick to international formats and not create one where you are forced to buy a stupid program just to convert the file.

    Hey,

When I tried to convert my UIF file, instead of converting into ISO, it separated into three files: MDF, MDS, and CUE. The title of the CUE had uif_iso.exe in the title.

I made sure that the uif2iso and the uif2_gui were extracted to the same location, so where’s the problem?

    Thanks!

  137. 141
    White Shadow says:

Hmm, interesting. Google indicates MDF is a format used by Alcohol 120%, so perhaps you cuold try that software to open it.

    hey guys.
do one of you know why my uif2iso converter makes two .cue files that are 105bytes and 78bytes big? ive got a .uif file and it doesnt converts a file that is 567mb big to a new file that i can use. these two byte sized files doesnt work. can do nothing with them.
does anyone know why it does this and how i can convert my uif files so i can use em?
    thanks alot in advance

    pain in the ass says:

alright kk need more info if you need help get email this email address and ill give you a yahoo id to pm i just dont want to post an id here bad things could happen but what sounds like is happening is some setting in your firewall or antivirus is stripping it for some reason my firewall did the same thing first time i downloaded it but disabling the firewall and downloading it i had no problems maybe try disabling those and redownloading it or maybe you didnt download the gui file as it wont work if you dont it didnt for me anyway if you just have to gui file then the EXE wont work you do need both files downloaded for it to work properly this is all i can honestly say from my part but it worked fine for me
    For:Stian
i converted a gig an half to iso with no problem if you dont have enough ram it wont work so that might be your problem maybe not i can only speak on my behalf but i converted a gig and a half no problems from UIF-ISO and burnt it to a disc with no issues it might be a corrupted file honestly i have had that happen to me before but ive used this thing so much its insane

Either of you continue having problems feel free to email me at buckingfitch2020@yahoo.com i check it daily and i hope this helps you both in some way if not i apologize

Yes, you are right! DAA and UIF file are easy (and for free) converted into ISO.

    Thank you,

    It worked just fine.
I unziped the two files, uif2iso_gui.zip and uif2iso.zip
    using 7-zip.

Then double clicked ufi_converter.exe and filled in the name of the uif file downloaded with u-Torrent. This created the .iso file.

Extracted the resulting iso file, again using 7-zip [www.7-zip.org].

All [there were 50 of them] extracted .chm, .txt and .pdf files were readable.

    very best,
