How To Automatically Post Deviations to Twitter

DeviantART is a huge artist community. Twitter is a huge… blogging thing. Obviously some kind of combination/mashup is mandatory, so I figured out how to get your deviations automatically posted to Twitter. Yeah, I’m bored.

First, you will need to figure out your DeviantART RSS feed address. The generic form is this :

http://backend.deviantart.com/rss.xml?q=by%3Ausername+sort%3Atime

Replace “username” with your own DeviantART username. The resulting feed will list your recent deviations, sorted by time. This is just what we need.

Now take this URL and feed it to twitterfeed.com. The process is explained well enough on the site itself, so I’ll just list some suggestions here :

  • Set the Twitter feed to “Include… title only”. The DA feed doesn’t list any descriptions anyway.
  • Set up a tweet prefix for the feed (e.g. “Deviation : “), unless you are going to use a separate Twitter account for posting your deviations.
  • Click “test rss feed” before saving the new feed to ensure you got the RSS address right.
