Hmm. I expect I would feel a bit jealous if anyone took the idea and used it in a similar way. However, unless their project was an exact copy of this one, I'd be more or less okay with it. Ideas can't (and shouldn't) be patented. The "total links" widget is actually updated <em>twice</em> per day just to be sure. I wrote a small plugin that does it for me, so that part is completely hands-free. However, Yahoo! can sometimes take a while to discover new links, so the number may not change that often. What would you say to other people taking the same idea and using it themselves? I think with a little more promotion you could get quite a lot of eco-blogs linking back to you.
