WordPress Ideas RSS Feed

A lightbulb by CraigPJ @sxc.huWordPress.org has an Ideas section where users can post their suggestions for new WordPress features and comment on ideas posted by other users. If you’re a plugin developer or just someone who blogs about WP, this page is a good place to look for new… well, ideas. It doesn’t have an RSS feed though, so I made one with Yahoo! Pipes. Now you can subscribe to this feed and get notified about new feature suggestions as they are submitted.

Sidenote : An RSS feed is not the only thing WordPress Ideas is missing usability-wise : the site only shows a handful of latest ideas, there’s no way to browse older submissions, no way to sort the results, the search page also displays only the first 20 or so results (regardless of the query!) and so on. It seems I’m not the only one to notice this, but so far the situation is unchanged.

I did write a scraper script and dump the entire idea list into a local MySQL database for easy searching, but I don’t think it would be legal for me to post that here 😉

Thanks for creating this RSS feed. As for the Ideas forum, Jane Wells is currently in the process of cleaning up that part of the project. From what I know, duplicate ideas are being removed and the Ideas forum will be upgraded to bbPress 1.0. The selections in the drop down box for ideas will get touched up and the plugins powering the forum will also be refreshed. Hoping when its finished, the Ideas forum will return to its glory days.

As much as i hate to say it..

The ideas forum is based off bbPress, and even if it isn’t exposed through the theme, A RSS feed is available:

Well isn’t that just great. In my defense, invisible site features don’t count 🙂

I know.. I hate it as well.

Occasionally i’ve done similar things and then thought, “Wait a minute.. Surely this should be easier than this..”

If Jane succeeds in getting the spam cleaned up, It should be a bit more usable tho

Wicked stuff nonetheless, I dig Yahoo Pipes, they’re so powerful
Did you try writing this pipe using their YQL module? I’ve never used it but it seems awesome

  9. White Shadow says:

While I didn’t use YQL in this pipe (you can clone & edit the pipe if you want to see how it works), it does certainly look powerful. I’ll have to check it out later.
