Tree Link Update

December has just passed, so here’s and update on my experimental charity project. According to my stats, the Tree Link received nine links, which means I have to sponsor nine new trees. That’s not a lot, but it’s a start. And, since it’s New Year (more or less), I’ll throw in some additional $ and make it a nice round number… in fact, in hopes of fostering a bit more activity for this idea, lets make it really nice 1000 trees donation 🙂

I’ve donated $100 (=1000 new trees) to the Trees For The Future charity. Here’s the screenshot of the confirmation page (with some sensitive personal info smudged out) :

    Good job 🙂

  2. I must say, what a great idea. What would you say to other people taking the same idea and using it themselves? I think with a little more promotion you could get quite a lot of eco-blogs linking back to you.

A question, how often are you going to update the “updated daily” total links section on the Tree Link page?

Ah, I wish I was any good at this promotion thing 🙂 I’ve tried a few things (some social bookmarking), but I ran out of ideas quickly. Hmm.

I expect I would feel a bit jealous if anyone took the idea and used it in a similar way. However, unless their project was an exact copy of this one, I’d be more or less okay with it. Ideas can’t (and shouldn’t) be patented.

The “total links” widget is actually updated twice per day just to be sure. I wrote a small plugin that does it for me, so that part is completely hands-free. However, Yahoo! can sometimes take a while to discover new links, so the number may not change that often.
