Free PDF To Word Converter
How to convert PDF files to Word documents? – this seems to be an often asked question nowadays. Normally you can’t edit PDF files (unless you buy an expensive editor) and extracting text/images from PDF files can be hard, so converting .pdf files to .doc may seem like a natural solution for those familiar with Microsoft Word.
Unfortunately free PDF to Word converters are hard to come by – in fact, until recently there was absolutely no way to do this conversion without either buying an expensive propiertary tool or using some lousy “PDF to text” converters that couldn’t handle images, tables, complex layouts, varying fonts and so on.
I spent more than an hour searching for a way to do it and was almost ready to give up when I discovered a great online tool that will convert any PDF file to a Microsoft Word document. The best part is – it’s completely free! I’m talking about Zamzar – a free online conversion service.
Converting PDF files to Word is very easy :
- Go to Zamzar.com.
- Click “Browse” and choose the PDF file you wan to convert to .doc (you can repeat this step several times to add multiple files).
- Select “doc” from the “format to conver to” dropdown. There are other possibilites, too, like rtf, html and so on.
- Enter your e-mail address in the corresponding box.
- Click Convert! The file will be uploaded to Zamzar and very soon you’ll get an e-mail with a link to download the converted file(s).
I tested it with several PDF files and I must say the quality of conversion was good. Not perfect, but the document layout, images and text formatting were preserved well enough. I’ll certainly use this tool in the future in case I need to convert PDF to Word documents.
Zamzar is more than a free pdf-to-word converter – it can also handle a multitude of other file formats, converting between various document, image, music and video formats. Looks like a great all-round online tool to me.

Need pdf to Word Converter
@Janaka : If you mean some kind of offline, standalone software, you’ll have to get one of the shareware applications – there’s no free alternative if you don’t want to use the online tools. I can’t recommend any software in particular, but just typing “PDF to Word converter” in Google will give you lots of relevant sites.
IT MAY WORK FOR TEXT ONLY, BUT IT’S COMPLETE GARBAGE IF YOU HAVE PICTURES IN THE PDF FILE. I MEAN COMPLETE GARBAGE.!!!!!!!!!!! IF YOU HAVE TEXT ONLY, YOU CAN JUST COPY AND PASTE INTO WORD. WHAT A JOKE THIS SITE WAS!!!!!!
[Troll much?]
I disagree – I tried it with two PDFs that contained pictures and it worked fine – the pictures were there and the layout was mostly preserved. It’s not perfect, obviously, and may not work as well with your files.

Hey I just tried Zamzar for the first time after attempting to download some trial 5 page converter then pay the fee and it very well. I do have pictures and they seem to be preserved but I still need to do a more thorough comparison.
As far as the comments about Word to PDF if you are on Windows Vista with Office 2007 then you can ‘Save As’ your Word document to a .PDF file format.
I am very pleased because I just had one document that we had lost the underlying Word source document.
Good job finding this White Shadow.

Hello, I’m so happy to find your site. Now, I’m wondering if there’s a way to read QFX file online? Or download any free programme that could view/open/read QFX file? Thanks.
I searched around and didn’t find any free tools that could do this. If I understand correctly, QFX doesn’t contain much data itself – just authorization info that would let you use Quicken to connect to a bank.
i use PDF Export Kit to convert pdf to word or html. it’s very good, you can try it.
Thanks for that. Very useful.
