Free PDF To Word Converter

How to convert PDF files to Word documents? – this seems to be an often asked question nowadays. Normally you can’t edit PDF files (unless you buy an expensive editor) and extracting text/images from PDF files can be hard, so converting .pdf files to .doc may seem like a natural solution for those familiar with Microsoft Word.

Unfortunately free PDF to Word converters are hard to come by – in fact, until recently there was absolutely no way to do this conversion without either buying an expensive propiertary tool or using some lousy “PDF to text” converters that couldn’t handle images, tables, complex layouts, varying fonts and so on.

I spent more than an hour searching for a way to do it and was almost ready to give up when I discovered a great online tool that will convert any PDF file to a Microsoft Word document. The best part is – it’s completely free! I’m talking about Zamzar – a free online conversion service.

Converting PDF files to Word is very easy :

  1. Go to Zamzar.com.
  2. Click “Browse” and choose the PDF file you wan to convert to .doc (you can repeat this step several times to add multiple files).
  3. Select “doc” from the “format to conver to” dropdown. There are other possibilites, too, like rtf, html and so on.
  4. Enter your e-mail address in the corresponding box.
  5. Click Convert! The file will be uploaded to Zamzar and very soon you’ll get an e-mail with a link to download the converted file(s).

I tested it with several PDF files and I must say the quality of conversion was good. Not perfect, but the document layout, images and text formatting were preserved well enough. I’ll certainly use this tool in the future in case I need to convert PDF to Word documents.

Zamzar is more than a free pdf-to-word converter – it can also handle a multitude of other file formats, converting between various document, image, music and video formats. Looks like a great all-round online tool to me.

If you mean the author of this site, contact away (I’m here). If you mean the converter’s author you’ll need to look around for a contact address on zamzar.com.

INTERNAL ERRORS! That´s also what it does. Even if Zamzar (overboasted) offers gigabytes in pdf to docs, MIND YOUR UPLOAD SPEED (most of us use asynchronous). If your day has 168 hours, then the file upload´s no problem.

This is complete rubbish. The “word file” is unformatted and looks nothing like the original. Complete and utter waste of time. Thanks for nothing.

Hmm, I’m not sure how well the converter works on bootable disk images. Can you open the CD normally in Explorer?

By the way, you’re commenting on the wrong post here.

FreePDFtoWordDoc Converter looks good but reviews say it is nagware. After a few uses you have to go to their site loaded with ads and solve some math problem to get a code to make it work for every time you use it…

Online converter is convenient but it’s not that stable and reliable, I think.
So I prefer desktop PDF converter.
I find a useful freeware called Anybizsoft pdf to word converter, it’s pretty good, maybe you guys can have a try.

  19. Mary says:

Thanks for the info, Mr Nostra,
But I saw that the Anybizsoft PDF to Word 1.0 will leave beta on July 15th 2009 on their homepage. And updated version 2.0 will be released, it seems that the speed and the accuracy will be greatly enhanced.
What’s more, beta users will get competitive discount when PDF to Word 2.0 is released.
so if you want to have a try, be hurried.
